Nokia ‘X’, this year at MWC 2014, Nokia announced three new smartphones in their entirely new Android lineup. They announced Nokia X, Nokia XL and Nokia X+ which are low-end devices which run AOSP with Nokia’s skin over it. As we’ve seen since the past few years, wherever Nokia goes, they continue taking their Nokia brand everywhere, so they introduced Nokia Store on their Android devices. We still are confused why Nokia introduced Nokia Store which actually lacks quality apps where as there are millions of apps already there on the Google Play Store.
Along with Nokia Store they’ve also introduced Nokia MixRadio, HERE Maps BETA.
We’ve got a few tricks that might help you to get these things running on your Android phone. For this your phone needs root access, please see to it that we are not responsible for any damage to your device.
For Nokia Store to work on your phone you need to download and install the APK file for the Nokia Store which you can download from the dowload link given below. Now that you’ve downloaded the app its time to install it, for this you need to copy the APK file to : “root folder /system/apps”. If you don’t do this, the app won’t install. After this you need to reboot your device. After rebooting the app will be installed as a system app. The app will be available in your App Drawer by the name Store.
BONUS from Nokia:
Well, there’s a bonus from Nokia too. We found SwiftKey free in the Nokia Store which otherwise is a paid app in the Google Play Store. Make sure you download it for free 🙂
We don’t need to remind you about the Spotify and Pandora killer app Nokia MixRadio. Now you can get it working on your Android phone too. Download the APK for this from the link given below. For this, first you need to go here : “root folder /system/build.prop”. Open this build.prop file using a text editor but before that the permission for this folder should be set to R/W(Read-Write). Now open this file, there you need to modify this line :
“ro.product.manufacturer=samsung/htc/sony” to “ro.product.manufacturer=Nokia”
After this, reboot your phone and then Nokia MixRadio will work properly on your phone. If you missed out any step you might face an issue saying : “Nokia MixRadio is a Nokia Exclusive service”.
The Nokia MixRadio also does support lock screen album art on phones running Android 4.4 KitKat.
HERE Maps BETA and Nokia Launcher
HERE Maps BETA and Nokia Edition Launcher is currently not working on other devices but the developers are trying to port the app, we’ll update this as soon as there is some progress. The HERE Maps BETA app gets stuck at a blue screen with HERE and doesn’t work. And the Launcher gives a Force Close when tried opening after install.
We’d like to thank XDA developers for these tricks, you can follow the XDA thread here.
Let us know whether the Nokia X Apps are working on your device or not and yeah which app do you like most?
